Do you remember the last time you challenged yourself to read your Bible and pray every day? How long did that last? Sometimes, my personal devotion comes as waves, and I’m sick of chasing more and more “spiritual” things in my life . . .

I breathed in the smell of wood and fresh air, looked at array of red, orange, and green trees around me, and just smiled. Can this truly be real? With fall in full-swing, every place I seem to find in Upstate and Western New York is filled with gorgeous beauty and stunning colors. With the change of the leaves and the slow, yet evident shift from summer to winter, this season has a lot to tell us about life in general.

This past weekend, I went to Penn State to visit a friend and watch a football game! I had a blast, but throughout the whole time I was there, I was hyper-aware that this college was not like my college back at home. I realized it was due to both the huge size difference (1,500 versus 45,000 undergrads) and also that Houghton College is a Christian school, while Penn State is not. I love both atmospheres for different reasons, and I could easily see myself at Penn State just as much as I see myself at Houghton.
In honor of my recent adventure, let’s look at the pros and cons of the choice to go to a Christian University versus a State School.
